Federal Government funds will fix another accident black spot in the Holt Electorate.
Federal Infrastructure and Transport Minister Anthony Albanese and Member for Holt Anthony Byrne announced the Rudd Labor Government will provide $210,000 to fix an accident hot spot in Cranbourne West.
The approved project is Evans Road from Thompsons Road to Fairhaven Boulevard at Cranbourne West. $210,000 has been allocated to seal the shoulder and install painted edge lines.
This project was recommended by a panel of independent road safety experts and will be delivered during the course of the coming financial year (2010/2011).
Mr Byrne said since being elected, the Rudd Labor Government has allocated $872,000 to fix four black spots across the Holt electorate.
“This investment is helping to make our local roads even safer for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians, with one of these projects already completed,” said Mr Byrne.
“The good thing about our Black Spot program is that anyone can suggest an intersection or section of road they believe should be considered for a safety upgrade.
“Nomination forms are available from my office. Alternatively, they can be downloaded from: www.nationbuildingprogram.gov.au.”
Mr Albanese said an independent evaluation of the national program found it prevented at least 32 fatalities and more than 1,500 serious injuries in its first three years, underscoring its effectiveness at reducing fatal car accidents.
“That’s why nationally we’ve doubled the program’s funding to half a billion dollars – more than honouring all our election commitments.”
